“These are lyric and song ideas that I have been collecting over the years,” Jepsen said in a statement about the release. “I can’t tell you how lucky I feel to be able to collaborate with some of my dream producers. It has been the most fulfilling experience. The record is pop. It’s inspired by Robyn, The Cars, Madonna, and believe it or not, James Taylor. I can’t wait to share it with everyone! Kiss.”
Jepsen worked with a number of A-list producers and songwriters onKiss, including Max Martin, Dallas Austin, LMFAO’s Redfoo, Toby Gad and Matthew Koma. And the LP will feature her Owl City collabo, “Good Time,” as well as a still-unnamed track with Justin Bieber. “The Justin song, I’m kind of sworn to secrecy on because I think we want to release it together at one moment,” Jepsen explained to MTV News earlier this summer. “But the rest of the album, I’m really excited for.”
Her song with RedFoo, coincidentally, shares a title with the album. “There’s one particular song that I can’t wait to share called ‘This Kiss’ that I wrote with Matthew Koma and Redfoo from LMFAO,” she told us. “[The sound is] definitely in my vein, but [Redfoo’s] a really brilliant guy, and I think, if anything, when a collaboration happens, it’s a little bit of everybody that makes it what it is. So maybe not just me and not just him, but us together.”
